February Mood Board

I’m a bit of an overthinker. I dwell and mull over and contemplate to death almost every idea I have and decision I have to make. I want things to be perfectly put together before I share them with others, which means I often don’t share anything at all.

This year I’m focusing on reining in that self-critical, self-limiting habit, and doing more: writing here on the journal, sharing more of my work, putting into motion the ideas I’ve been letting get a little bit too comfortable in the safe, quiet spaces in the back of my mind.

February has always felt like a fresh start. Coming out of the holidays, January is a bit of a hangover month, a month of recovering from a season of joy and stress and intense, often unnecessary busy-ness. In comparison to the resolutions and rituals of the new year, February feels like a breath of crisp, chilly winter air.

I’m looking forward to using this month to settle into the rhythms of the new year, let down my creative guard, and maybe, just maybe, stop overthinking, and finally decide on a color of this Sézane sweater I’ve been eyeing.

This month’s mood board is a nod to the traditional pinks and reds of February’s main event: Valentine’s Day (image credits below). I’ve come to love soft blush tones, the way they complement warm amber and gold hues, and support the dramatic brick reds and deep merlots. It’s a palette that feels distinctly feminine, at the same time striking and subdued.
